[Scirehab-UW] Caregivers Sought for National Spinal Cord Injury Health Information Needs Study

Dear Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Subscribers:

Here is a message from the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center, which works with all of the SCI Model Systems in the U.S. such as ours to deliver current, high-quality health information to individuals with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers and health care providers.

The Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) is recruiting individuals over 18 who are the primary caregivers of someone who sustained a spinal cord injury. Participants will engage in a phone interview to better understand caregivers’ health information needs.  Participants will be compensated $20. If you are interested, please call Deeza-Mae Smith at 202/403-5127 or email msktc@air.org for more information.

[Scirehab-forum] Caregiver Stress & Support Brown Bag Lunch Forum

Dear Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Subscribers:

We wanted to let you know about this free event coming up soon in Seattle that may be of interest to individuals who are primary, unpaid caregivers for individuals with disabilities.

King County Caregiver Support Network Brown Bag Lunch Forum:

Caregiver Stress & Support Services

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

12 noon–1:30 p.m.

City Council Chambers, Seattle City Hall

700 Fourth Avenue, Downtown Seattle

If you routinely ...

·         Bring food to an adult friend or family member

·         Listen to and reassure them

·         Drive them to appointments

·         Help them with chores

·         Pay their bills

·         Run errands for them

·         Help with yard work

·         Fix their leaky faucets

·         Organize their medications so they can be safe

…then you are a caregiver, and you are probably under a lot of stress!

Fortunately, help is available. Learn about resources available to family, friends, and neighbors who help others remain living in their own homes.

Hear about services — coaching, counseling, and more — that help unpaid primary caregivers provide better care while maintaining their quality of life.

For more information, email Lisa Herbold at Lisa.herbold@seattle.gov.

Hosted by Councilmember Nick Licata, the Seattle Human Services Department, and the Advisory Council on Aging & Disability Services.
