[Scirehab-forum] SCI Forum Tuesday April 12, 2011

Announcing the next SCI Forum:

 

Everyday Nutrition for Individuals with SCI

What are the unique nutritional needs of people with SCI? What research has been done on this topic? How do you incorporate these nutritional goals into your daily eating habits? Vickeri Barton, RD, Associate Director of Nutrition Services and Susie Kim, OTR/L, Occupational Therapy Clinical Specialist from Harborview Medical Center, will present the latest American Dietetic Association nutrition recommendations for persons with SCI. They will discuss calorie guidelines, protein requirements and other nutrients needed for maintaining healthy skin, heart, weight and bones and for promoting good bowel and bladder health. They will also provide strategies and tools for shopping and meal preparation.

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Meet & Greet! Come to the cafeteria before the Forum for an informal social hour and discussion. Dr. Steve Stiens and two SCI dieticians will be on hand to share and analyze recipes. Feel free to bring your own recipes. Dinner may be purchased in the cafeteria until 7:00 PM.

[Scirehab-forum] SCI Support and Information Group Meeting March 17

Individuals with spinal cord injuries and their family members and caregivers are invited to attend the next Spinal Cord Injury Support and Information Group, which will take place:

 

·         Thursday, March 17, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm

·         Harborview Medical Center  (4-West Patient & Family Room, across from the nurses' station). 

 

This is not a therapy group, but rather an opportunity to share stories and experiences, ask questions and get real-life answers. You can also just listen to fellow members of the spinal cord injury community.

 

Monthly Meetings at Harborview Medical Center:

 

·         3rd Thursday of each month

·         12:30 to 1:30 pm

·         4-West Patient & Family Room (across from the nurses' station)
